Kate and her Brother Ken

Kate McGraw is a Cumberland County native, born in Carlisle, PA, and raised in a family of dairy farmers and small business owners in rural Monroe Township. The scenic Appalachian Trail and majestic Cumberland County farmland were in Kate’s childhood backyard, and are her home.

A 1996 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Kate McGraw, served as senior class president, before heading off to college to earn two undergraduate degrees from Penn State University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Brooklyn College. Through the University of Vermont’s New Farmer Project & Women’s Agricultural Network, McGraw has completed coursework relevant to emerging agricultural business practices.

For the past 18 years, Kate McGraw has run a successful independent art studio, with exhibitions both in the United States and internationally, most notably in New York, Washington, DC, Switzerland and Argentina. This past summer, McGraw had a 10-year retrospective exhibition titled Manual Labor at Penn State University’s flagship Robeson Gallery. Manual Labor traveled to the 2018 edition of Penn State University’s Ag Progress Days as a way to bring art and agriculture together through community collaboration.
