Running a robust grassroots campaign from an old wooden workbench in her home, Kate McGraw knows how to roll up her sleeves to tackle complex challenges and get results. Kate is the fighter you want on your side in the General Assembly, and she promises to bring effective leadership, legislative efficiency and dedicated representation to the 92nd Legislative District in Pennsylvania.
Education a Keystone
Born in Carlisle, and raised in Monroe Township, Kate McGraw attended Cumberland Valley High School and the former Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts. Kate earned undergraduate degrees from Penn State University and her master’s degree from Brooklyn College. She completed coursework in farming business from the University of Vermont. Kate knows that a well-funded public education is a keystone for success and she will fight to bring renewed prosperity to our public school system in York and Cumberland counties. Hard work and diligence are hallmarks to Kate’s work ethic, and required qualities to achieve effective change for our educational system.
Strong Family Values
One of five children, Kate grew up in a dynamic, working class family. Kate’s father is a United States Marine Corps veteran and retired Ingersoll-Rand construction equipment salesman. Kate’s mother, now retired, worked many years in food service in the Mechanicsburg Area School District. Spending time with her lively extended family, including nine nieces and nephews, is a favorite pastime for Kate – she understands the importance of strong family values, and promises bold action to secure increased access to vital health and human services for our families in the 92nd Legislative District.
Hard Work and Success
Kate is an artist, most notable for her immersive paintings, drawings and performances that are testament to her appreciation and reverence for Pennsylvania agricultural landscapes. As a young woman, Kate worked on neighboring family farms with her siblings, picking strawberries and harvesting vegetables for local farm stands and country markets. Summers were spent working on her uncle’s and grandparents’ dairy farms, where she drew inspiration for her commitment to preserving and strengthening our agricultural network for family-run farms in Pennsylvania.
At Home in Churchtown
Kate lives in her hometown village of Churchtown, a small rural community in Boiling Springs, where she is restoring a historic 200 year old farmhouse with her husband, Dave, a technology entrepreneur and woodworking hobbyist. In her spare time, Kate works on small farming projects, such as tending to an ambitious vegetable garden and making plans for a future homestead with diversified livestock. Kate also enjoys spending time with her two frolicking cats, aquascaping her aquarium and tending to the prolific wild bird population in her backyard.
As an advocate who can speak to the unique nature of our rural and developing region, Kate McGraw will be your trusted Representative for the varied issues facing our communities, schools and families in York and Cumberland counties of the 92nd Legislative District in the General Assembly.
